I had the pleasure of working with Sarah Demmon last year on the cover for her new book about her struggle and recovery from breast cancer. She is a raw and real writer that pulls no punches. For a person dealing with cancer for the first time, I could see how it would be a great support and encouragement.
A mutual friend, Jennifer, was speaking with Sarah at dinner and heard her concept of wanting a rock & roll look for her cover design. Being rad like always, Jennifer thought of my style being a good fit and sent Sarah my way. When we spoke she wanted to throw up the devil horns in a “screw-cancer, it can’t beat me” sort of way. She also wanted to feature all of the different surgeries she had in the process of treatment and reconstruction. I had this idea of taking this great concept towards a science-lab-dissection-labeling mixed with a punk rock gig poster and a pulp fiction comic book. It all clicked so nicely. Sarah was great to work with and I couldn’t be happier with the final result.
