A Clockwork Orange
Jan 2011 02

The great folks at Lodge Design invited me to participate in the 2010 gallery showcase titled “Big Picture Show” that was in part of the Indianapolis International Film Festival. They asked local artists, illustrators & designers to participate in recreating classic movie posters. I was immediately drawn to Clockwork Orange because of the striking, cult-iconic imagery of this droog. I wanted to show him in this classic pose in the Moloko Plus bar because it’s one of the main images you remember after watching the film. I pushed the concept a level further by incorporating his skull subtly in the background. The title of the book and subsequent film was a reference Anthony Burgess, the author, made about how we, as humans, are soft like fruit on the outside but our intricate interiors are complicated like that of a clock.

I had a blast with this piece and it was super cool to see it hang at the amazing local gallery, Big Car, as well as the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Both prints made of this piece sold at the very beginning of the show. I have plans to make a screen printed version sometime down the road.
